Role
My role was to design a website that would help users search for unique apartments in France, specifically catering to those looking for special features or requirements. This involved both user interface design and ensuring the user experience was smooth, intuitive, and responsive for those seeking different types of rental options.Â
The challenges for the "Paris Hosting" project include:
Competition with Suburban Apartments: Apartments in Paris are more expensive than those in surrounding suburbs, making them less attractive to some tourists.
Price Competition: Numerous similar apartments nearby compete for the same tourists, making it difficult to stand out.
Property Wear and Tear: Frequent tenant turnover due to tourism leads to property damage and maintenance issues.
High Operational Costs: Utilities and booking commissions reduce profit margins for property owners.
Limited Profit Margins: High costs and competition make it difficult for owners to maintain profitability.
Interviews with usersÂ
The research goal for Paris Hosting is to create a broad target audience by:
Offering a wide range of services and apartment options, with proximity to tourist attractions and exclusive features.
Ensuring customer satisfaction through seamless booking, excellent service, and high apartment standards.
Encouraging repeat visits with loyalty programs, discounts, and personalized services.
Maximizing short-term profits by ensuring high guest turnover and efficient booking management.
Building a loyal customer base to ensure consistent, long-term profitability through loyalty programs and personalized experiences.
By focusing on these areas, the platform aims to attract a broad audience and generate sustained profits.
As part of the interviews, I aimed to understand:
Pain Points of Customers:
Difficulty finding unique apartments in central locations.
High competition among similar apartments, leading to confusion.
Hidden costs (e.g., cleaning fees or high deposits).
Lack of transparency in availability and booking conditions.
Difficulty in finding accommodations that meet specific needs.
Positive Aspects to Preserve:
Easy-to-use booking platform.
Exclusive, high-end apartments in prime locations.
Responsive customer service.
Transparent information about apartments and pricing.
Proximity to tourist attractions.
These insights help improve the booking process, address challenges, and enhance customer experience.
For the project, two personas were created:
Persona 1: The Young Couple
Background: A couple planning a surprise birthday weekend in Paris during the Tour de France. They enjoy visiting museums and art.
Goals:
Find a centrally located, fully equipped apartment for 3 nights.
No meals included, to explore local dining options.
Needs:
A comfortable, convenient location near attractions.
A memorable, cultural experience in Paris.
Challenges:
Finding an apartment that matches location, cost, and availability during the busy season.
Persona 2: The Family of 5
Background: A family of five (couple + three children) traveling to France for five days. They plan to spend one night in Paris for a sightseeing tour.
Goals:
Find an affordable apartment for one night in Paris.
Comfortable accommodations for a family with basic amenities (shower, Wi-Fi).
Stay close to city attractions (within a 30-minute walk or 10-minute taxi ride).
Needs:
A room that fits the whole family with necessary facilities.
Budget-friendly options with decent ratings (3 to 4 stars).
Challenges:
Limited budget while ensuring a good location and essential amenities.
Finding a place that meets their basic needs within a short stay.
Problems:
External Factors: Epidemics (e.g., "Corona"), wars, and terrorism significantly impact tourism. Although Paris attracts tourists year-round, these events cause empty apartments, leading to financial loss.
Competition: During times of crisis, competitors may still profit while the apartments remain vacant. Many people resort to searching for lower-commission alternatives or use word-of-mouth recommendations.
Economic Challenges: Incorrect financial calculations can result in little to no profit.
Suggestions for Improvement:
Unique Feature: Introduce a feature for apartments with a unique profile, tailored to the customer's preferences, that would make the site stand out. This would offer properties exclusively, with no additional commissions for either the property owner or the customer, potentially increasing user satisfaction and loyalty.
The research helped identify both existing problems and potential issues that could arise during the tourist season. It provided valuable insights into how the platform could attract a broader target audience. By addressing these challenges, I could help generate additional profits for the company.
Based on the findings, I defined the project's specifications and design, focusing on creating a unique, user-friendly experience that could appeal to a larger, diverse audience while mitigating potential risks during challenging seasons.
Unique Feature for the Site:
The idea is to offer apartments with a unique profile based on the customer’s preferences, making the experience exclusive. This feature would allow users to select apartments that are tailored specifically to their needs and desires, such as:
Customizable Options: Users can select apartment features that match their ideal stay, such as location, size, type of view, amenities (e.g., pet-friendly, kitchen, etc.), and more.
Exclusivity: The apartments will be presented as exclusive listings, not available on other platforms, offering a more personalized, luxurious feel for customers looking for something special.
No Additional Commission: There will be no added commission from either the property owner or the customer, providing transparency and making the service more attractive for both parties.
This feature aims to differentiate the platform from competitors, offering a unique experience that could attract a wider audience and increase customer loyalty.
To create a broad target audience, the strategy involves offering a wide range of services and ensuring apartments are located near entertainment and tourist attractions. This approach attracts diverse customers, including:
Convenient location: Apartments near popular landmarks and entertainment hubs make it easy for tourists to explore the city.
Variety of accommodations: Offering different types of apartments for various needs and budgets appeals to a broader market.
Specialized services: Additional services like guided tours or personalized recommendations can attract a wider audience looking for a more comprehensive experience.
This strategy helps generate interest from a larger pool of potential customers and keeps the platform appealing to various tourist groups.
To ensure customer satisfaction and repeat visits, the focus is on:
Personalized Service: Quick and responsive support.
Consistent Quality: Clean, well-maintained apartments.
Loyalty Incentives: Discounts or perks for returning guests.
Tailored Experiences: Customized services based on preferences.
Streamlined Booking: Simplified process for repeat customers.
These strategies create a high-quality experience that encourages customers to return.
To generate high profits from a target audience staying for a short period:
Maximize Guest Turnover: Focus on optimizing bookings and ensuring high occupancy.
Premium Pricing: Charge higher rates for short-term rentals during peak seasons.
Targeted Marketing: Attract tourists with promotions tailored to short stays.
Efficient Processes: Streamline check-in/check-out to handle high guest volumes.
Incentives for Repeat Guests: Offer deals to encourage return visitors.
This approach drives profits through increased bookings and higher rates for short stays.
To generate high revenue through a loyal customer base:
Encourage repeat visits with exclusive deals and loyalty programs.
Offer excellent customer service to ensure positive experiences and retention.
Personalize experiences based on previous stays to make customers feel valued.
Maintain communication with newsletters and special offers to keep customers engaged.
Incentivize referrals by rewarding customers for bringing in new guests.
This approach focuses on building long-term relationships to drive consistent revenue.
The goal is to offer a service with no additional commission for property owners or customers. This model:
Reduces costs for both parties.
Attracts more property owners to list their apartments.
Appeals to budget-conscious customers.
Builds trust through transparency.
This commission-free approach encourages loyalty and provides a better user experience.

Impact
The website design provided users with a reliable platform to efficiently search for apartments in prime locations at affordable prices. It offered unique features not commonly found on other rental websites.
Takeaways
The target audience includes tourists aged 18+, such as students, couples, and families. They have a good economic situation and are employed. Their primary need is accommodation, and they may also require additional services like breakfast or laundry.
The pricing should be tailored to the specific needs of the customer: for example, a student or family should receive a lower price, while a couple may be charged slightly more.
The main goals for the users are leisure, relaxation, and business. They want affordable apartments with the necessary amenities, and they prefer reliable websites with secure payment options and fair pricing.
The recommended graphic language includes antique pink, symbolizing romance in Paris, with clean, thin text to enhance the aesthetic appeal.
